Jolie in Talks to Play Role in “Gucci” Film

Director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, American Gangster, Body of Lies) is reported to be talking to Angelina Jolie about playing Patrizia Reggiano in a film about the Gucci family during the 70s and 80s, at the height of their reign over the fashion world.

Reggiano was sentenced to 29 years in prison for plotting the murder of her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci after he was gunned down near his Milan apartment in 1995. Scott has approached Leonardo DiCaprio about the role of Maurizio but no developments have been released on that.

New Sherlock Holmes Trailer Released

Director Guy Ritchie’s (Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) new Sherlock Holmes film will be released in theaters on Christmas day. The film stars Robert Downey Jr. as Detective Holmes, Jude Law as his sidekick, Watson and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler.

Not all plot details have been released. Imdb describes the plot as Holmes and Watson “engaging in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.”

Movietome reported that when producer Susan Downey (Robert’s wife) was asked about the plot at Comic-Con in July she said “the universe is from the books, but the actual narrative is original to the movie…within the kind of wheelhouse and world that Conan Doyle created.”

In November 2008, IESB.net recieved supposed plot leaks about the film from a user named “Jack the Ripper.” All I want to let you know is that he stated the name of Holmes’ nemesis in the film as Lord Blackwood.  Anyway, here’s the trailer.

Our Top 18 Date Movies

Today is going to be a special post. To celebrate our one-year engagement, my fiance and I thought it would be cool to put together a list of our 18 favorite date movies. We hope you enjoy it and feel free to let us know what your favorite date movies are! (C=Chelsea, D=Damen)

18. Being John Malkovich– C and D: Even if you’re not obsessed with John Malkovich like we are (and everyone in the film), this makes a great date movie for several reasons. 1) The dance sequence. Nuff said. 2) Spike Jonze is a mastermind of visually captivating images and this one is chock full of them. 3) cute monkey.

17. Forgetting Sarah Marshall– C: Okay so we didn’t completely agree on this one. But I think it’s a great date movie because it’s got a little bit of everything: heartbreak, new romance, cute jokes about relationships and sexuality, and situations that can simultaneously make you laugh and feel a little uncomfortable.

16. Doubt– C and D: This is a great movie whether you’re on a date or not but we like it because it’s a conversation starter. The ending leaves you with questions; questions that you’ll want to be asking each other when it’s over. It’s powerful, Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are incendiary on the screen and the tension between those two characters could be cut with a knife.

15. Star Trek– C: EPIC!!!!!!!!

The Enterprise crew

14.  The Princess Bride– C: a classic. Hilarious and romantic. Princesses, pirates, Andre the freakin giant (RIP). You just have to love everything about this movie, no matter how many times you’ve heard someone quote “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father. Prepare to die.”

13.  Watchmen– C: Okay before you watch this one, both parties really should read the graphic novel. It’s brilliant but even if you don’t, the film is still packed with awesome. It’s a long one but what’s better than a group of costumed heroes that are really just everyday people with no special powers? (with the exception of Dr. Manhattan). There’s tons of action, a little humor, and some VERY steamy scenes between Silk Spectre II and Night Owl…umm…make sure there’s no kids around for this one (unlike the parents who decided to bring children to the theater when we saw it. That was awkward). Anyway, it’s a masterpiece, but you have to really pay attention to it to get the full effect of the awesomeness. Oh yeah, and it has a kickass soundtrack too.

12. Burn After Reading– C: Damen loves the Coen Brothers and he was really excited to see this one. I was looking forward to it but I did not expect to react the way I did. No exaggeration, I HAVE NEVER LAUGHED SO HARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! This is the funniest movie I’ve ever seen. I’m sure many of you may disagree but I can’t think of anything funnier. The plot is so unique, so many unexpected twists and yet there is no actual conflict, it is all perceived through the minds of the most neurotic bunch of characters you can pack into one film.

11. The Royal Tenenbaums– D: This is a unique contribution to this list.  I feel it makes a perfect date movie because it blends the themes of a lot of different types of films but somehow they dovetail into a very interesting story about a family on the verge of falling apart.  Parental separation, forbidden love, family secrets- this film has it all.  Gene Hackman as the patriarch of this strange family is at the top of his game and Wes Anderson is a visionary director who knows how to tell a story.  If you’re watching this on a date, you’re sure to get some solid laughs with whomever you’re with, and also he/she will appreciate your choice of a smart contemporary comedy.

The Tenenbaums

10. Back to the Future– D: Come on.  You’d have to be crazy not to LOVE this movie.  Male or female, this movie is a classic.  It’s got adventure, laughs, romance and MICHAEL J. FOX.  The guy’s a legend.  This really is a timeless film, and there has never been a time travel movie that has even come close to being as good as B.T.T.F. (unless you count Donnie Darko, but that may be a little too dark for a date)  Doc Brown, Biff Tannen, and a classic rendition of “Johnny B. Goode, see this movie with somebody and you’ll have a long conversation about being a kid and seeing this movie.

9.  Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark– D: I still get goosebumps when that first image of Indy in his iconic fedora appears on the screen.  Audiences young and old still appreciate this movie for exactly what it is- a fun adventure.  As far as a date goes, this one may be perfect.  It’s got thrills, romance (Marion Ravenwood was my first crush ever),  laughs and a few sequels to keep the date going. All the fellas who read this will agree with me 100 percent on this choice.

8.  Lars and the Real Girl– C: The main romance in this film is between Lars and a life-sized doll named Bianca. It’s not perverse, it’s just a sweet, humble guy who is so far removed from society that in an effort to find companionship, all he can do is project his ideals of a real, living, breathing woman onto a plastic one. Everyone knows Bianca isn’t real, but everyone is on Lars’ side and wants him to be happy and in an effort to get him more acclimated into the community, everyone treats Bianca as if she were a real person. It’s touching, sweet, and a perfect portrayal of the inherent goodness of humanity.

7. Chicago– C: This is my favorite movie of all time. It also happens to be the film I saw on my very first date during those oh so wonderful days of high school. It opens with a bang. “All that Jazz” sung by the strong, sultry Velma Kelly, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones in an Oscar-winning performance. Renee Zellweger plays a lovely little jazz killer with a murder on her hands and a guilt-free conscience, Richard Gere makes a very convincing, tap dancing lawyer, and Queen Latifah plays the powerful, tough-as-nails prison guard Momma Morton. So why is this a great date movie? It’s fun, sexy, exciting, and all that jazz.

Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart

6. Spiderman– D: Despite the fact that Spiderman is one of the most recognizable figures in popular culture, the film translation of the comic book is pretty spot on.  Origin stories of comic book heroes are always the best because you get to know the characters and where they come from.  Spiderman does just that and introduces the well known Peter Parker/Mary Jane Watson love story.  This is where the movie becomes a date movie.  It’s got a great blend of action and romance, and it’s sure to entertain you and your date.

Spiderman and Mary Jane

5. Edward Scissorhands– C: I cry every time I watch this movie. I don’t know a chick that doesn’t cry watching this movie. Guys, this works to your advantage. Ladies, two words: Johnny. Depp. The character of Edward is so loveable and sweet, you forget how threatening those large, sharp blades attached to his arms are. When a person has been as isolated and lonely as Edward has for so long, we want him to be happy and feel loved. Of course those scissorhands are the permanent barrier between Edward and the normal life of Suburbia. Sad but genuine and beautiful, this one is definitely a winner with the ladies.

Edward and Kim

4.  Breakfast at Tiffany’s– C: Diamonds are a girl’s best friend–well in this case, they are second only to a cat named cat. Maybe some guys would consider this a chick flick but I disagree. The main character, Holly Golightly played by Audrey Hepburn is charming, impulsive, stubborn, and fiercely independent, a character idolized by many women and one that men will undoubtedly find very intriguing. This film shows the uncommonly shown woman who is afraid of committment and her struggle to recognize love as something different from dependence.

Paul Varjak, Holly Golightly, and Cat

3. 500 Days of Summer– D: This is kind of the anti-date movie.  Yet, somehow it says something honest about how relationships really work.  Like the fact that some of them have expiration dates.  Really, this is not a romantic comedy.  It’s about a man named Tom Hansen who works as a greeting card writer, but secretly longs to be an architect, which is what he studied in college.  Tom is also looking for the love of his life.  Then he meets Summer.  Summer seems to be the girl of his dreams, but there is one problem- she doesn’t believe in love.  The film chronicles the ups and downs of their Jekyl and Hyde relationship.  Of all the films of this genre, I think this one is the most relatable.  We all know how Tom feels because we’ve been there.  We’ve all had our Summer.  Really the film is about being in your 20’s, after college, trying to figure out what you want.  It’s funny and heartbreaking at the same time, with an awesome soundtrack.  Watch this with your date and you’ll hear alot of these: “Oh my god that’s definitely happened to me before,” and “Ugh I know exactly how he feels.” Watch it, and you’ll know what I mean.

Tom Hansen and Summer Finn

2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind– C: They meet on the train. It’s certainly not love at first sight, it’s more like a guy who just wants to be left alone and a chatty, obnoxious woman who starts pestering him. Somehow it turns out to be love and the road is rocky the whole way. You wonder, “why are they together?” until one day, Clementine does not recognize Joel. This beautifully crafted masterpiece is about loving, losing, and winning it back even though you know you’re going to lose it again. It’s about two people who are so wrong for each other but just can’t seem to live without each other.

Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski

1. Juno– C: The reason why we chose this movie for number 1 is more of a personal one. You could rearrange this list in pretty much any way because all of these movies are amazing. This happens to be the film we saw on our first date and it was the most perfect date movie we’ve encountered thus far. Why? Well, it’s how we discovered we have pretty much the exact same taste in films and music. This movie really does have it all. On the surface, it’s a simple premise: a teenage girl gets pregnant and gives up her baby for adoption. Not something you’d typically want to see on a date. But the characters are so well written and the actors fill the roles flawlessly. Every character is loveable and more importantly, they are relatable. The best way to describe this film is unique. It’s cute, the jokes are impecable, and the soundtrack is amazing.

UPDATE: Beyonce as Wonder Woman Was False Information

Well, my few but fantabulous readers, I’m afraid you will have to disregard that last post about Beyonce as Wonder Woman. ComicBookMovie.com has posted an update alerting readers that the person who wrote the article about Beyonce’s Wonder Woman confirmation made up the story and has now been banned from the site. The best part? The culprit who went by the name “Resurrection” said he did it to “impress his girlfriend.” Wow, really? Lying about a press conference? Oh baby, how romantic. Might want to try diamonds or poetry next time. Oh, the things we do for love.

I’m sorry if the news has disappointed you. Cheer up, put on your satin tights and fight for your rights.

Paranormal Activity to be Released Nationwide

The latest Blair Witch Project-esque phenomenon, Paranormal Activity has gotten so much buzz after being on limited release that you and I will now be able to see it starting October 16th. The official website has a tagline under the film’s title: “The first-ever major film release decided by you.”

This is because the website has a “demand it” button up where people who want the film to be realeased in their town can click  and enter their  zip code to see how many others in their area requested it as well (there were 85 others in my town at the time that I entered it). The goal was for the film to reach 1,000,000 demands and it has now been surpassed. It remains one of the top trending topics on twitter.

The film, directed by Oren Peli is about a young couple who documents  life in their new house. They soon discover that there is an unwelcoming presence in the house that does more than go bump in the night. From recent reviews, it sounds like this film will scare the pants off of anyone who sees it. The trailer looks creepy but it’ll take more than that to scare me. I guess I’ll find out on Halloween!

Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

The upcoming film The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus premiered in London last night. The film was directed by Terry Gilliam (who also directed Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Monty Python and the Holy Grail) and will be released in limited theaters on Christmas day. The film stars Heath Ledger as Tony. It was Ledger’s final role before his untimely death which left the film unfinished for a while. The character of Tony is also played by Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell who stepped in after Ledger passed away. Christopher Plummer is Dr. Parnassus and holy cow: Tom Waits has a role as Mr. Nick! Here’s the latest trailer:

It looks amazing, right?

Beyonce as Wonder Woman?

That’s right folks! Comicbookmovie.com reported today that the singer/actress confirmed at a press conference that she is in talks with Warner Bros. to play Wonder Woman. Beyonce said in a couple of months she will be meeting with Stuart Beattie and David Elliot, the writers of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. It is expected that the film would be released in late 2011.

Beyonce, Wonder Woman

Beyonce, Wonder Woman

Beyonce had expressed interest in playing Wonder Woman last year when she told the LA Times “I want to do a superhero movie and what would be  better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?”

Several other actresses have been considered for the role in the past, including Jessica Biel and the oh-so overrated, overused Megan Fox. When Fox was asked if she would be interested in playing Wonder Woman, she told Times Online “Wonder Woman is a lame superhero. She flies around in her invisible jet and her weaponry is a lasso that makes you tell the truth. I just don’t get it. Somebody has a big challenge on their hands whoever takes that role but I don’t want it.” Thank goodness! We’ve been spared another Megan Fox movie! You know, I have to agree with her when she told the Times Online “If I weren’t attractive, I wouldn’t be working at all.” Damn right, because we all know there’s no talent to compensate for said attractiveness!

Another actress that was reportedly considered for the role was Kate Beckinsale. The actress who was recently named Esquire’s “Sexiest Woman Alive”  told The Insider she doesn’t want to embarass her daughter by playing more scantily clad roles. “I’m becoming elderly for that sort of thing. Maybe not me so much, but I think once the child gets into third grade, that was the whole question with Wonder Woman, because it’s still essentially underwear. So I don’t know but you never know.”

Hmmmm…

I have to say I’m not a big Wonder Woman fan because she’s not one f the most interesting superheroes but I think Beckinsale would’ve made a great Wonder Woman. She’s already proved she can play kickass women (i.e. Selene in Underworld). Jessica Biel would’ve been okay I guess. A bag of hammers would be better than Megan Fox. Beyonce? While I think the woman is gorgeous and supremely talented when it comes to singing, I’m not a fan of her acting. Her performances just aren’t memorable and some just downright sucked (i.e. Foxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers: Goldmemer…although that whole movie was a disaster). I will say this though, in this fan made photo, she looks fantabulous in the outfit:

Kill Bill 3 Confirmed!

Uma Thurman as "The Bride" in Kill Bill Vol.1, right before it gets really bloody

worstpreviews.com reported yesterday that Quentin Tarantino confirmed Kill Bill 3 on an Italian talk show. When the host asked him about the film, he said “I have to wait a couple of years because I want ten years to pass from the second one to the third one.” Apparently he felt that he and Uma Thurman need a ten year break and that her character, Beatrix, aka “The Bride” deserves “a nice peaceful life for ten years” after killing so many people.

Tarantino confirming the film on “Parla Con Me”:

While the first two films were fantabulous, I am a little nervous about this one, especially with ten years going by. I guess the most awkward thing about it is that she killed Bill in the second film. [Uh…sorry if you didn’t see it.] Also, the actor who played Bill, David Carradine, passed away over the summer. What will it be about?   Some fans speculate (myself included) that Vernita Green’s daughter will be seeking out revenge after Beatrix killed her mother right in front of her (in one of the most kickass fight scenes ever). I was going to post  video of it but I couldn’t find one less than 10 minutes long. But basically for those of you who have never seen the film or don’t remember, after Nikki sees Beatrix kill her mother, Beatrix tells her “When you grow up, if you still feel raw about it, I’ll be waiting.” This movie will either suck or it will be just another amazing film to add to Tarantino’s brilliant masterpieces. Let’s hope it’s the latter.

Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox” Looks Fantastic!

The second trailer has been released for director Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox” film due in theaters November 25th. Just like every other great Wes Anderson film, (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling Limited, etc.) this one looks like it’s going to be a cult classic.

The film is based on the 1970 children’s book  by Roald Dahl. Best of all, is the amazing cast of actors lending their voices to the film: George Clooney as Mr. Fox, Meryl Streep as Mrs. Fox, Jason Schwartzman as Ash, Owen Wilson as Skip, Bill Murray as Badger!!!????? I know what I’ll be doing on Thanksgiving weekend! Anyone else as excited about this film as I am?

Johnny Depp Likely To Leave “Pirates” After Fourth Film

A story on worstpreviews.com  today said that Disney is looking to replace Johnny Depp’s character Jack Sparrow in the last two Pirates of the Caribbean films with a new character. Worstpreviews reported that Depp is no longer excited about the fourth film since Walt Disney Studios chariman Dick Cook has been fired. Apparently there were differences in the way Cook and Disney Studios President/CEO Bob Iger thought the Studio should be run.

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow

Disney does not plan to find a different actor to play Sparrow but rather to come up with a whole new character. It is rumored that British actor and comedian Russell Brand could be playing Jack Sparrow’s brother in the upcoming films. A November article in Marie Claire said that Brand was lined up to play Jack Sparrow’s borther, Johnathan while in £5 million talks with Disney. However, the rumor has not been confimed by the actor or by Disney. Brand told Access Hollywood that it was a possibility, however he said “I’ve got eight other things to do…So I don’t know if there’ll be time to be a pirate, I’ve got enough of that in me private life.”

Russell Brand

I can’t even believe there’s going to be 6 of these movies. The first three did well at the box office, with the first and third films making over $3 million and the second over $4 million. But Jack Sparrow is very much a central characterin the films and without him, the last two will likely flop.
